This charity home is close to our hearts.
During our volunteering period, we noticed that although children had a lot of toys, when their time came to leave the House they left all the toys behind since they were shared. The idea of crocheting personalized stuffed toys to children was born from this observation. We crochet a toy for every child who arrive here. The ages range from 0-3 years. On the day they leave, House of Charity gives the toy in a Gift Pack. These little keepsakes give the children warm cuddles during the transition period and a good memory from this beautiful home sponsored by Poverelle Sisters of Bergamo. We still continue to crochet for the new comers into the House.
Joseph Kangethe Primary School
We call this school Our Lost & Found.
This is so because we found it after we took a wrong turn during a drive and got lost. It is one of the public schools in Kenya that has the Integration of Hearing-Impaired students with regular education programs. A few weeks before we got lost, the headteacher Mr.Nyaga had bought a stuffed teddy bear, specifically for this class to use it as a teaching aid. On seeing the stuffed teddy bear the children were so excited and started squabbling for it. It was just by luck that we happened to meet him on that day and we offered to crochet stuffed toys for the children.
We still continue to crochet for the new pupils and are amazed by how these little keepsakes have helped the children increase their emotional wellbeing, coping skills, resilience, self-esteem and a self-soothing behaviour.
